Before I introduce our next KEAN Critter, with a heavy heart, I hate to report that last week's pair of "Lovable Labs" did not get adopted in time. I was informed by the staff at the shelter that "no one ever adopts or wants the older animals". That is a shame. They were just so beautiful and well behaved. It's so sad.

Okay, now lets see if we can save an innocent critter this week. Can you please help save Jordan the cat?

Can you help save Sandy and Runt the two lovable labs?

This is the tail of two labs, who are well trained, Sandy is are 11 years old while Runt is only 10 years old, both are fixed, housebroken and they make quite the pair. Both took to the leash and were ready for whatever came their way. Sandy the 65 pound female and Runt the 60 pound male didn't bark or tug on the leash and when big Larry (who works at the Animal Shelter) threw them two doggie biscuits, the fun was on. Sandy the taller of the two caught one in mid air, while Runt was still wondering what all Sandy was eating. They are owner turn ins because their previous masters are moving and "can not take the dogs with them."

Love is in the air, because Toby's original owners showed up at the pound, holding hands and wanting their "little baby back." At first they were afraid that Toby might have been put down, since he was there so long. I think, 'Lucky' is what I would change his name to. Mom and dad are back together again and life is good for a Chihuahua/Terrier mix they named Toby. Thank you to all that shared this blog and helped to get Toby a new home.

Guess who finally went home after getting a temporary 'stay of execution'? Hank the Handsome Lab mix may be wagging his tail, but I can't seem to quit smiling as I'm overcome by tears of joy. I had been praying that Hank would be spared. "The bigger dogs are harder to adopt," so I'm told by Mr. Vannoy the Director of the animal shelter, thus the reason why I worried so much about the 85 pound lab named Hank. Thank to the wonderful family that cared enough to give Hank life. Please look at all the other beautiful critters that need homes, follow the link to see their picture and description.

Good news came early this morning, Nipsey the three year old orange tabby was adopted. Abilene Animal Control Shelter officer Frost said "Nipsey went to his new home late Friday just before the shelter closed." Thank you to the anonymous family that adopted him, and thanks to everyone that shared the blog and helped spread the word, about a lovable overweight cat named Nipsey. It is  impossible to help animals without your support. Still, more critters need homes, see more shelter info and animals below.

This one went down to the wire, Cowboy the Golden/Pyrenees mix was adopted Saturday. Aaron Vannoy the Director for Abilene Animal Control Shelter said, "Cowboy was adopted by Danielle Molina on Saturday afternoon just before we closed. She already had a great Pyrenees retriever named Charlie. Now Charlie has a buddy named Cowboy." Thanks to everyone that shared the blog and helped spread the word on Cowboy. Miss Maggie the beautiful nine year old chocolate lab has a new home in the country.  As you can read in the comment below, Correne Allen and her husband wrote "my husband and I are bringing Maggie home tomorrow. we think Maggie will really like the country with a lot of room to run & right on the water too." Friday the 13th turned out to be a lucky day for a lot of animals in West Texas as the SPCA, Rescue the Animals, the North Shore Animal League and yours truly teamed up to rescue at least 100 kittens, puppies, cats and dogs from being put to sleep. Animal shelters from all over West Texas turned out for the event and so did thousands of west Texans.

It's one thing to teach your children to say grace before their meals, but your dog? This has got to be one of the coolest videos of a dog joining in on saying grace that I have ever seen. There are days when you just want to cry, days when you just want to scream and the there are those days. You know the ones when nothing else will do. I'm talking about laughing so hard you lose control of your body functions laughing so hard that your ribs hurt for days. well this next video did that later part to me. I don't know what it is about a child and a family pet, that seems to put your whole day back into perspective. I have to warn you though, uncontrollable laughter is around the corner.
