It's an awesome day for Hercules the German Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix. He went home with Abilene's best and most well known weatherman, Pete Beretta. I received a phone call Monday evening from a very excited Pete Beretta, who began the conversation by saying "Hercules came home with me, Jack! This big guy is so beautiful, you ought to see him after I gave him a bath." Beretta went on to say "you weren't kidding when you said this is the sweetest dog,Hercules is awesome brother!"

Can you help us save Hercules?

Hercules is only a year old mix-breed that has the face of a German Shepherd with the body and coat of a Great Pyrenees. As for lovableness, this big guy scores a ten plus. At first glance he is quite intimidating, but right away I figured out that he is a 75 pound mound of love. I couldn't get Hercules out of his kennel, but after a couple of dog treats he was my buddy for life. I don't use these words lightly but I'm going to label Hercules as a "gentle giant." If you've got the space we have your best friend.

As I mentioned Hercules took a little bit to coax him out of his kennel, while all the other dogs were barking and yelping, Hercules was laid back and loving life. When I questioned several of the Animal Control Shelter employees about Hercules, they all said the same thing, "that is one awesome laid back dog." Two of the workers said if they weren't at their limit they would have adopted Hercules themselves.

The fact is though, Hercules doesn't have any time left, he's been at the shelter for a while now and his time is up! He needs a miracle, a special person that has a nice sized yard and that's not afraid to take on a big dog. Here's how you can help Hercules live longer.
