Its Getting Hot So Beware of Snakes Coming Out All Over the Big Country
Warmer weather has arrived and some of the creepiest critters are coming out to bask in the sunlight and they are hungry. Many critters are looking for a quiet place with some food whether it's rodents or bugs.
At first glance, it appears that the snake population around West Texas has grown quite a bit. A Couple of my neighbors called and asked if I've had any snakes around my place. Abilene Animal Shelter and Rescue the Animals' founder Paul Washburn says "We must always be on the lookout and get our pets properly vaccinated because It seems as though the rattlesnake population is growing in west Texas.
Does The Rattlesnake Vaccine Work On Pets?
So my advice to anyone with outdoor pets, especially dogs that reside outdoors is, to get them vaccinated with the rattlesnake vaccine. My veterinarian says to give your fur babies at least a fighting chance, and yes, the rattlesnake vaccine works on almost all pets even cats.
I went to purchase some glue traps at Jackson Brothers Feed, to put around my home property to see about catching these rattlesnakes. Some snakes have been reported getting into homes through the plumbing, cracks in walls, and through the clothes dryer exhaust vent.
To keep snakes out of my house, I'm placing these really inexpensive glue traps near all the obvious points of entry, and guess what they are working. I'll warn you though be extra careful if you try it and if you don't feel safe or comfortable disposing of these low-life slithery critters, call a professional exterminator to dispose of them for you.
If you have children, I highly recommend that you please keep them away from the glue traps. If you're working around your tool shed or lawn mowing equipment please "stop, look and listen" for the common signs of deadly snakes in the area.
Again there are exterminators that can help eradicate the snakes from your place. And, remember vaccinate your fur babies.
