The Major League Baseball season is winding down, and for some high-profile players and one particular manager, it probably feels like the longest season of their careers. So who was this year's biggest disappointment?

It's a little strange to lose a body part. But that's what happened to St. Louis Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter when surgeons removed one of his ribs in an attempt to alleviate pressure that was running up his pitching arm. After the surgery Carpenter was presented with the bone, and he knew just what to do with it:

Over the course of their careers, major league pitchers throw tens of thousands of pitches. Most of them will end up in the general vicinity of the catcher’s glove. Others will miss so badly that baseball fans will have no choice but to laugh at the ugly result.

There’s no denying that the typical professional baseball game has many dull moments. Even the most diehard fan can have a hard time focusing on those midseason snoozefests during the dog days of August. Yes, today is the day all baseball fans wait for, Opening Day of the season. I will be taking in a baseball game although it's not a professional league game.

As I mentioned a couple of days ago little league season is underway and soon our new minor league team will be taking the field as well. The Abilene Prairie Dogs home opener will be on Memorial Day, May 28th!

When Spring rolls around it means lots of outdoor activities. Barbeques to Zoo outings. It also means time for baseball season to get underway. Next to basketball, baseball is my favorite sport. Any parent of a young boy probably has already been at the ballpark several times this season.

Wilson Ramos is an up and coming Major League baseball player here in the U.S. He is not a U.S. citizen however. He plays catcher for the Washington Nationals and has been home in Venezuela playing Fall ball during his break from the U.S. season. He was kidnapped from his home and authorities have few leads in the case.

Generally, when a spectator at a baseball game catches a foul ball he’s next seen fielding a call from a friend or a relative who saw him make the snag on TV. This Texas Ranger ran took that congratulations right away because he was already deep into a cell phone conversation when he casually grabbed a screaming line drive of a foul ball off the bat of Rangers’ second baseman Ian Kinsler.
