This 2002 American-Canadian film went on to become the highest-grossing romantic comedy of all time and focuses on a classic rom-com story where girl meets boy, girl's family gets in the way, and they live happily ever after.
30-year-old Toula Portokalos (Nia Vardalos) becomes frustrated with her own frumpy and meek singleness, in comparison to her loud, intrusive, traditional Greek family's desire for her to marry and have children. While working in her family's Greek restaurant, Dancing Zorba's, she meets handsome schoolteacher Ian Miller (John Corbett).
Toula begins working for her aunt's travel agency, where she gains confidence after Ian asks her to dinner, and the two begin dating seriously. Her parents and extended family initially reject Ian because of his vegetarian lifestyle and his Protestant raising. The Portokalos clan eventually accepts Ian and his very uptight family into the fold, and their (big fat Greek) wedding goes off without a hitch.
