I'm on the fence with technology sometimes; it can be great and time saving but it can also put people out of jobs. Take for example this new idea that Wal-Mart is trying in about 200 of it's more than 4000 stores. It's called Scan & Go and it allows you to use your iPhone to scan your purchases as you go and simply pay when you leave. However, I have a feeling that it will eliminate peoples jobs too.

The pilot program for this started late last year in about 70 stores in the Wal-Mart home city of Bentonville, Arkansas; it has now been expanded to 200 stores and includes Atlanta.

As of right now the Scan & Go is only available for iPhones but they hope to soon have it available for Androids as well. Here's how it works. You scan your planned purchases using the Wal-Mart App on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, it tracks and keeps up with your total purchases as well as your budget. When you are ready to check out you go to the self-checkout and scan your phone and simply pay.

This is supposed to help alleviate congestion at the checkout counters and provide more convenience for shoppers.

Some other markets that will eventually have the Scan & Go capabilities include: Dallas and Austin, Texas; Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Oklahoma and a few more.

So what do you think about this new Scan & Go technology? Would you take advantage of the new technology or will you still be old school and have someone do your checkout for you?
