These 3 Texas Cities Rank High for Raising Children Right Now
Texas Cities Are Raising More Kids And I Know Why
Growing up in a big family is more than just a childhood experience, it’s a full-blown adventure. My wife Donna and I raised eight children in one house right here in Abilene, Texas, five girls and three boys. It wasn’t always easy, but it was always full of love, laughter, and, yes, a little chaos. We’ve lived the highs and the lows of parenting, and we wouldn’t trade it for the world.
So when I came across new research about where families with kids are thriving, I wasn't surprised to see several Texas cities make the national list leading the way in attracting more families to move to these three Texas cities. Meanwhile, these are the Best Family Cities in Texas.

Texas Cities Leading the Nation in Families With Children
According to a new study from Chicco USA, researchers analyzed U.S. Census data from 350 cities to identify where families with children are most concentrated. Nationally, only 29.7% of households have kids, but several Texas cities are significantly outpacing that average.

Here are some standout Texas cities:
- Frisco: 46.4% of households have children, placing it among the top five cities in the nation.
- Laredo: 45.8% of households include kids.
- Atascocita: 45.1% of households are raising children.
These numbers highlight a trend: Texas cities are becoming hubs for families seeking supportive communities.
A Surge in Young Children
The study also examined the percentage of children under five years old, revealing that some Texas cities have a notably young demographic:
- Edinburg: 42.5% of its under-18 population is under five, ranking it sixth nationally.
- Denton: Experienced a 28.5% increase in young children over the past five years.
- Sugar Land: There was a 20.8% rise in households with children during the same period.
These statistics suggest that more families are settling in Texas and starting families there.
The Joys and Challenges of a Large Family
Reflecting on our own experience, Donna and I often marvel at the energy and excitement that comes with a full house. While raising eight children had its challenges, the rewards were immeasurable. Each child brought their unique personality, dreams, and laughter into our home.
We frequently discuss why more parents aren't choosing to have larger families. In our view, the cost of raising children doesn't necessarily double with each additional child. Instead, resources are shared, and older siblings often help with the younger ones. More importantly, the love multiplies.
Why Texas Appeals to Families
Several factors make Texas attractive to families:
- Affordability: Compared to other states, Texas offers a lower cost of living.
- Education: Many cities boast excellent school systems.
- Community: There's a strong sense of community and family values.
These elements create an environment where families can thrive. And if you'd like a great home to raise your family in see the video below.
