Kenny Chesney Anxious To Return To The Road
Kenny Chesney has thought often of his return to touring after a years sabbatical away from the life on the road.
“I’m anxious, not nervous,” Chesney said, before the final rehearsal for his “Goin’ Coastal” tour, which begins Thursday, March 17 in West Palm Beach, Fla. “We do West Palm and then the first stadium, in Tampa, two nights after that.”
Country’s top ticket-seller in the new century, Chesney decided to take last year off to recharge and focus on projects including the release of new album Hemingway’s Whiskey (nominated for an ACM album of the year trophy) and sports-themed documentaries The Color Orange and The Boys of Fall.
Chesney invited a small group of industry pros and media types to the Wednesday afternoon rehearsal, which found him and his band ripping through a set that includes some Hemingway’s Whiskey material and numerous past hits. Several times, he paused during songs, looked up and pointed to the bare walls that by next week will be stadium sections filled with fans.
