This year, don't miss Chorus Abilene as they perform one of my all-time favorites, Haydn's "Lord Nelson" Mass for their Easter performance and the best part is it will be with a chamber orchestra and very special guests this year. The concert will be held at the First Baptist Church at 1333 North 3rd Street in Abilene, on Saturday, April 1st.

The special guests that will be featured in this year's performance are Serayah Peters, Lynnette Chambers-mezzo soprano, Christopher Rosborough, and Scott LaGraff. The video below will give you a really good idea why it's one of my favorites as it's the Haydn - Lord Nelson Mass at the Yale Schola Cantorum.

Haydn's chief biographer, H. C. Robbins Landon, wrote that this mass "is arguably Haydn's greatest single composition." Written in 1798, it is one of the six late masses by Haydn for the Esterhazy family composed after taking a short hiatus, during which elaborate church music was inhibited by the Josephinian reforms of the 1780s. The late sacred works of Haydn are regarded as masterworks, influenced by the experience of his London symphonies. This piece is reffered to as his best. Source: Wikipedia

Chorus Abilene is Abilene’s premier vocal choral group, Chorus Abilene promotes choral music through performance and participation by members of all ages. Chorus Abilene was founded in 1990 as "The Classical Chorus of Abilene."

Now, Chorus Abilene has both young and adult chorus vocal groups, and everyone is encouraged to try out for Chorus Abilene. The chorus performs several times a year at many different locations and occasions.

Many performances are either holiday or faith-based like Christmas and Easter

I am a huge fan and have followed the Classical Chorus of Abilene throughout the years. I will say this "they have the sound that we will hear when entering Heaven's gates." The Chorus is known for its many holiday presentations. Many of the presentations are faith-based like Christmas and Easter, while others may be holiday or event-based concerts like Independence Day.
