Hey Jerry, It’s Time To Put Jimmy in the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor

Jerry Jones announced on November 19th, 2023 that former Cowboys coach, Jimmy Johnson will be inducted into the Ring of Honor on December 30th. 

Former Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson has etched his name in the history books as one of the greatest of all time. He has already landed himself in the Hall of Fame. So why the heck is he not in the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor?

After firing the fedora-wearing legendary coach Tom Landry, the only coach the Cowboys had ever had, Jerry Jones hired Jimmy Johnson in 1989. Johnson had taken the Miami Hurricanes to the National Championship and cemented himself as a great college football coach.

Johnson's time as the head coach of America's team propelled the Cowboys to two Super Bowl wins in the 1990s. Many folks, including me, think there would have been even more victories if it were not for a public divorce of sorts between Johnson and Jones.

After the separation, Johnson went on to become the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, lasting four years before hanging it up and going into broadcasting. But the animosity between Johnson and Jones seemed to remain for well over two decades.

In the last few years, however, the two have seemed to let things simmer down a bit. In fact, it wasn't long ago when Jones admitted to his mistakes with Johnson.  Most recently, when the Cowboys played the Chargers, the two shared several moments on the field.

So what's the deal, Jerry Jones? Why hasn't the two-time Super Bowl champion been inducted into the coveted Ring of Honor yet?

This completely boggles my mind. Here you have a coach solely responsible for the dynasty he created for the Cowboys in the '90s. He's a Hall of Famer for crying out loud.

While Jones says there is no timetable for putting Johnson in the Ring of Honor, you can bet that Cowboys fans are getting a little antsy. It's time, Jerry. It's time.
