Abilene Mourns the Loss of Officer Daniel Henning – How You Can Help His Family
Honoring the Life and Legacy of Officer Daniel Henning
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Abilene Police Officer Daniel Henning, who lost his battle with Ocular Melanoma on January 15, 2025. A dedicated officer, a loving husband, and a devoted father, Officer Henning’s impact on our community was immeasurable.
His career in law enforcement began with the Arlington Police Department, where he quickly rose to the rank of Patrol Sergeant. After 10 years of service, he left in 2010 to perform mission work in Nicaragua. Two years later, in 2012, he returned to Texas and joined the Abilene Police Department, where he served with unwavering dedication.
In 2020, he was selected as a School Resource Officer, a role that allowed him to connect with students in a meaningful way. His larger-than-life personality, love for Star Wars, and passion for collecting police patches were well known among his colleagues and students alike. Officer Henning believed in bridging the gap between officers and the youth of Abilene, earning the admiration and respect of many.

Above all, Daniel Henning was a family man. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Aymee, their son Luke (24), and two beautiful daughters, Jade (23) and Katelyn (4). He spent his final days surrounded by his loving family, friends, and his brothers and sisters in blue.
