Honoring Abilene’s First Responders on August 8/9
Here's a perfect opportunity to say 'thank you' to the First Responders of Abilene and Taylor County. The newly formed Abilene Freedom Foundation (AFF) began after Chief Dudley asked for assistance with last year's Abilene Police Department picnic in the APD parking lot near South 1st and Danville. Several community members asked if the picnic could be moved to a cooler location, and the chief said yes.
Within days, the APD picnic had been relocated to the Display Building at the Taylor County Expo Center, thanks to support from community partners and sponsors. The AFF committee thought it would be nice to "spread the love" by making the picnic a two-day appreciation event. According to AFF organizers, "in a small way the picnics will show our appreciation for the hard-working men and women who are saving lives and protecting us every day."
This year the AFF again will be hosting two picnics on two separate days, but at the Abilene Convention Center in downtown Abilene. The first picnic is on Tuesday, August 8, from 5 to 8 pm, honoring the Abilene Police Department and the Taylor County Sheriff's Office. On Wednesday, August 9, from 5 to 8 pm, the event will honor the Abilene Fire Department and local EMS.
Both picnics will be serving hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks, and dessert. There will be air castles, kids' games, activities, and door prizes. Meals are free for all first responders. First responders do not need to be in uniform.
This event is only possible because of the support of local businesses, community members, and donors who wish to show their appreciation for our first responders. To make a donation and or become an AFF supporter, see the flyer below.
Along with Chaz McGuire, the Awesome Brad Elliott, and other Townsquare Media employees, I will be serving our first responders on Tuesday, August 8, at the convention center downtown. I hope to see you there.
