Sometimes life moves so fast that we forget to slow down, breathe, stretch, and simply reconnect with ourselves. That’s one reason I got excited when I learned the City of Abilene is now offering yoga classes for beginners and experienced students alike at two local recreation centers.

And yes, I’ll admit it, years ago, when I was working hard to lose weight with LA Weight Loss, yoga became part of my routine. At first, I thought yoga was just stretching and relaxing music. Boy, was I wrong. I quickly discovered yoga challenged my balance, flexibility, focus, breathing, and even my attitude. But honestly, I believe it helped me stay disciplined and motivated during one of the healthiest periods of my life.

Now the City of Abilene is giving West Texans another opportunity to improve physically, mentally, and emotionally through guided Hatha Yoga classes.

Texas Yoga Classes Designed For All Skill Levels

According to the City of Abilene, Hatha Yoga instructor Michelle Campbell leads a slow-flow, grounding class focused on strength, stability, flexibility, and mindful awareness. The classes are designed for everyone from beginners to longtime yoga fans.

The city says Michelle’s teaching style is warm, accessible, and focused on proper alignment, while also allowing students to move at their own pace with modifications and variations if needed.

Each class includes:

  • Breathwork
  • Gentle warm-ups
  • Traditional Hatha Yoga poses
  • Guided relaxation
  • Longer posture holds
  • Mobility and tension release exercises

To me, that sounds less intimidating and more inviting for everyday folks just trying to feel a little better physically and mentally.

Where The Yoga Classes Will Be Held In Abilene

The yoga classes will take place at two City of Abilene recreation centers:

Both classes will meet inside the activity rooms at the recreation centers.

The cost is:

  • $17 drop-in rate per class
  • $50 monthly four-class session

The monthly pass is valid for only one location, not both.

Memberships Are Free For Abilene Residents

One thing I really like is that City of Abilene recreation memberships are free for residents. Registration closes the day of each class, so organizers encourage participants to sign up early.

For more information or to register online, visit City of Abilene Recreation Programs or call (325) 676-6217.

My Personal Take On Yoga

I know some folks hear the word yoga and immediately think, “That’s not for me.” Trust me, I used to think the same thing. But after trying it myself, I realized yoga is not about being perfect or twisting yourself like a pretzel. It’s about improving your quality of life one step, one stretch, and one breath at a time.

And honestly, in today’s stressful world, we could probably all use a little more peace, flexibility, balance, and breathing room.
