Every year, the Abilene Police Department auctions off abandoned and unclaimed vehicles that have remained at the city's impound lot. Some have been involved in crashes, some were simply abandoned, and others were never claimed by their owners. While a few vehicles may need significant repairs, others could turn into excellent deals for the right buyer.

Cars, Trucks, SUVs and Even RVs

One thing that caught my attention this year is that several RVs are also scheduled to be auctioned.

Whether you're searching for an inexpensive daily driver, a restoration project, a parts vehicle, or maybe an RV that just needs a little tender loving care, this auction offers a wide variety of vehicles to choose from.

As always, every vehicle is sold as-is, so it's important to do your homework before placing a bid.

When the Auction Begins

The online auction opens Monday, August 3, 2026, and bidding continues through Friday, August 7, 2026, ending at 2 p.m.

If you'd rather inspect the vehicles before bidding, the Abilene Police Department will allow public viewing at the impound lot on:

  • Tuesday, August 4
  • Wednesday, August 5
  • 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Vehicles may only be viewed during those scheduled inspection hours. See some of what is in the auction in the photo gallery below.

Where to Inspect the Vehicles

The APD Impound Facility is located at:

  • 2349 Sandy Street in Abilene

The lot is located off East Highway 80 (Business 20), about one mile east of Judge Ely Boulevard. Turn south onto Shaffner Road, then east onto Sandy Street.

How to Register and Bid

All bidding takes place online through Renee Bates Auctioneers. The auction website also includes photos of every vehicle being offered, allowing buyers to preview what's available before visiting the impound lot.

Whether you're hunting for a budget-friendly vehicle, a fixer-upper, an RV project, or simply looking for hard-to-find parts, the annual APD Impound Auction could be worth a look.

Just remember to inspect carefully, know what you're bidding on, and stick to your budget. Sometimes the best bargains just need a little elbow grease.
