The City of Abilene's popular water park is bringing holiday cheer to the middle of summer with its annual Christmas in July celebration on Thursday, July 24, complete with swimming, games, prizes, festive treats, and even a movie under the stars.

A Christmas Party... In A Water Park?

It may sound a little unusual, but somehow Christmas and swimming go together better than you'd think.

Families can cool off in the pools, float the lazy river, enjoy Christmas-themed concessions, take part in poolside games, and win prizes throughout the day. Then, when the sun goes down, everyone can gather to watch The Grinch at sundown.

It's one of those events that only happens once a year and has become a summertime favorite for many Abilene families.

One Of My Favorite Places To Cool Off

I've been fortunate to broadcast live from Adventure Cove several times over the years, and it's become one of my favorite places to spend a hot West Texas afternoon.

I especially enjoy grabbing a tube and floating around the lazy river while watching families make memories together.

Some of my favorite moments are seeing my grandchildren, nieces, and nephews laughing, splashing, and wearing themselves out before heading home with giant smiles on their faces.

If Only It Stayed Open All Year

The only thing I'd change about Adventure Cove?

I'd keep it open year-round.

Of course, West Texas weather has other plans. Once cooler temperatures arrive, swimming season has to come to an end.

That's why I always tell people to enjoy it while you can. Summer doesn't last forever, and neither does water park season.
