Abilene’s Night of Lights 2024 Is Free Family Fun at Safety City
Abilene’s Night of Lights at Safety City: A Twinkling Tradition Returns for 2024
Back in the late 1970s, a group of passionate West Texans came together to fundraise for an idea that would benefit our children for generations. Their dream was a place where kids could learn essential safety practices, pedestrian, bicycle, automotive, and fire safety. By 1981, that dream became a reality with the opening of Safety City.
Today, that little city has grown into a vital part of our community. Renamed the Melvin Martin Center for Children's Safety in honor of retired Police Chief Melvin Martin, it continues to educate and inspire. Located at 2601 South 7th Street, just north of Oscar Rose Park, this facility is where learning meets celebration, especially during the holiday season.
