Christmas Lane Is Back, Bigger and Brighter Than Ever

Is it me, or does it feel like Christmas is shining brighter than ever this year? One event in particular remains near and dear to my heart: "Christmas Lane" at the Abilene State Supported Living Center. I’ve been fortunate enough to be involved over the years, from broadcasting live on-site to even hosting a guided tour way back when. It’s one of those traditions that just keeps getting better.

A Long-Standing Tradition, Free for All

I recently spoke with Kimberly Shea Butts, one of the directors at the Abilene State Supported Living Center, who updated us on this year’s exciting plans. She encourages everyone to come out and enjoy the festivities, reminding us that it’s absolutely free, yes, we’re dropping the F-bomb here: F-ree to view Christmas Lane! Of course, donations are always appreciated and go directly to benefit the residents of the Center. It’s a feel-good way to give back while enjoying the holiday magic. Despite some longtime participants stepping away since the pandemic, new folks have jumped right in, ensuring that the displays remain fresh and imaginative.

Drive-Thru, Walk Around, and Interact

This event is no run-of-the-mill light show. Whether you prefer to stay cozy in your car or explore on foot, Christmas Lane has you covered. On most nights, you can park and walk through the dazzling displays, sip hot cocoa, nibble on cookies, and even have your photo taken with Santa or the Grinch (keep in mind the photos are $5 & concessions are not free). There’s a train display that delights young and old alike, plus a special “direct line” to the North Pole where kids can call Santa’s workshop.

Dates, Times, and What to Expect

Christmas Lane is happening nightly from December 6th through December 26th at the Abilene State Supported Living Center (2501 Maple Street). Hours are Sunday through Thursday, 6–9 p.m., and Friday/Saturday, 6–10 p.m. From December 24th to 26th, the event will be drive-thru only. This slight schedule change ensures everyone’s safety while still offering that magical final touch to your holiday season.

A Worthy Cause & Community Effort

A big shout-out goes to the Volunteer Service Council and the dedicated staff at the Center for making Christmas Lane possible. They pour their hearts into this cherished fundraiser every year. If you can, leave a donation—cash, check, or card—to help support the residents. For more details, reach out to the Abilene Volunteer Service Council at 325-795-3547.

This year, come see why Christmas Lane remains one of the most enchanting and heartwarming traditions in West Texas. Enjoy the lights, celebrate the season, and remember to share the love.
