Abilene Broke Some Unwanted Records in the Month of June
When you jump on social media, it's easy to see that we rarely agree on anything. However, I think we can all agree that this summer has been one of the worst we've ever experienced in the Abilene area.
The big problem is that our "summer" started long before the first official day of summer (June 21st) as we've had some severe heat since early May.
According to Sam Nichols/KTAB News, June was a record-breaking month in a few heat-related categories.
First, Sam Nichols is one of the very few reliable meteorologists on the planet, so if he says it's true, then it's true.
What temperature records did we break in June?
Sam Nichols states that some of the records include "21 days with at least 100 degrees, 17 days in a row of at least 100 degrees, and 5 daily records broken or tied!".
The hottest temperature, on record, for the month of June in Abilene was set on June 30th, 1907 with a temperature of 110 degrees.
This year, we came close on a couple of days: June 11th with a high of 108 and June 12th with a high of 109. Both of those were records for their respective days in June, though.
As we enter July, 110 is also the record high for that month and was reached twice, on July 17th, 1978, and July 18th, 1886.
This record-breaking summer appears to have no end in sight, but as Sam Nichols eloquently stated, "I'm ready for fall!".
The hottest temperature, on record, for the month of June in Abilene was set on June 30th, 1907 with a temperature of 110 degrees.
