“Swingin’ Tex Fest” to Benefit Ben Richie Boys Ranch This Weekend [AUDIO]

The "Swingin' Tex-Fest" is coming to the Taylor County Fair grounds on August 24th and 25th, 2012. This is a two day fundraiser for the Ben Richie Boys Ranch. From what I've gathered this brainchild was a cooperative effort, between John Thomas of the Boys Ranch and Mark Powell of Lariat fame. Grammy award winner Junior Brown will be the headliner. Brown will not be alone though on this two day swing festival.

The Babes with Bullets Shooting Camp is Coming to Texas [VIDEO]

The Babes with Bullets (BwB) shooting camp that travels across the United States is coming to Texas in October. The BwB camp is a three day firearms training program for women who have little or no handgun experience. The BwB 'combo camp' offers women AR-15 rifle training too. Every camp is taught by women who are national and world firearms champions. The next Babes with Bullets camp will be in Amarillo and runs October 5th thru the 8th.

“Thundershirt” for Dogs Keeps Them Calm and Relaxed During Thunderstorms [VIDEO]


Some dogs have a very bad anxiety problem when it comes to thunderstorms or loud noises. Luckily (or not) around here we don't have a lot of storms but when we do they are usually pretty intense with thunder and lightning. I know my little chihuahua likes to crawl under the bed when storms pop up, my other dogs don't seem to might the noise too much. I saw this advertise the other night and though what a great idea if it really works. It's called the Thundershirt, and it's suppose to keep your dog calm and relaxed during storms.

Geek Art Contest Winners from Abilene’s Art Walk are Announced [GALLERY]

The Geek Art Contest was held during August Art Walk at the Center For Contemporary Arts (CCA) in downtown Abilene. First off what is "Geek Art?" It's were computer science related students from TSTC submitted their version of art using computer components and parts. That said, the judges recently announced who the Geek Art winners and all the other  participants in the contest. The Geek Art will remain on display through the end of the month at CCA.

Trinity Baptist Church youth Pastor Joseph Plagge says they're planning one last bash before school starts. The event is will take place at Trinity Baptist Church located at 871 Woodlawn Drive. It is free and open to children ages 3 years old thru 5th grade. Plagge says "this will also be a perfect opportunity to introduce neighborhood children to AWANA."

West Nile Virus Found in Abilene – What Should We Do?

West Nile virus has been found to be circulating in the Abilene area for the first time since 2008. The virus, transmitted by mosquitoes, was found in testing done August 1st on a sample of mosquitoes trapped on Abilene's north side, and the Texas Department of State Health Services Zoonosis Laboratory in Austin confirmed the positive test result.
