The results are in, 'The Chronicle of Higher Education' just released their fifth annual report on 'The Academic Workplace,' based on a survey of more than 46,000 employees at 294 colleges and universities in America. 103 of the 294 institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” status. McMurry University was awarded honors in two separate categories.

The first annual Cross Plains Classic 5k is set for September 15th. This event is a run or walk  and there will also be a 1-mile walk option. All proceeds benefit the local Cross Plains Community Cancer Fund. If you per-register before September 1st, you'll receive a T-shirt commemorating the event. There's also a “Sleep-in” option. The last time I can remember wanting to watch Sesame Street was nearly 30 years ago, when Mr. Snuffleupagus was seen by someone other than Big Bird for the first time. Now, I have another reason. The Abilene Repertory Theatre Alumni in conjunction with Abilene Community Theatre present "Everyman", a morality play, this Friday and Saturday evening. This is a fundraiser to help keep theatre alive in Abilene and also honor two members that passed away last year. This is a great show for church groups and tickets are going fast.

Dove season is just around the corner and while many people hunt, others do not. The RSVFD Dove Fest offers events for those of you who do not hunt. The annual dove fest is the primary fund raiser for the Rising Star Volunteer Fire Department.
