Rescheduled CarWalk Comes to Downtown Abilene Tonight
CarWalk, a popular annual ArtWalk event, is ready to roll into downtown Abilene this evening. After being rescheduled due to inclement weather in March, the forecast is ideal for displaying these works of art on wheels.
Hundreds of members of the Big Country Car Clubs and elsewhere will put their cars, trucks, hot rods and classic cars out for display from 5-8 downtown.
CarWalk had been scheduled in June in previous years, but was moved up to March 8th this year. That just happened to be the day that Mother Nature dumped a pile of freezing rain on west Texas, causing the cancellation. The only other available date was today, July 12th. CarWalk is sponsored by the Center for Contemporary Arts.
Free and open to the public
Other ArtWalk Events:
There will be live music from Tate Ellison at the Center for Contemporary Arts, as will members of the Big Country Dulcimer Club. The mechanics school at Texas State Technical College will be showing off a cardboard cutaway version of a hybrid that shows its inner workings.
Also, The London 2012 Dance Troupe from Dance Limited will perform on Cypress Street. This is the group that is off to perform at the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Summer Olympics, and will give Abilene a sneak preview of the performance.
