This remarkable journey, set to take place from September 1 to 28, 2024, will see Ritland cycle from Iowa to Texas in tribute to the Women Airforce Service Pilots of World War II. Ritland is a Vietnam veteran and is a proud 42-year member of the American Legion.

Ritland also known as "The Old Veteran Cyclist" has taken on several physical challenges to raise awareness of important veteran groups and veteran individuals. His passion for honoring those who served continues to drive him, as he brings attention to the awesome contributions of the women who played vital roles in World War II.

Ritland’s journey will end at the National WASP WWII Museum, where he will arrive on September 28th around 5 PM. He will be accompanied by local West Texas cyclists who will join him for the last 40 miles of his long journey.

Ritland Was inspired when he first learned all about the WASP program some time ago, which led him to visit the museum in Sweetwater, in 2022. Shocked to learn that 38 women lost their lives while serving in the WASP program and that their families had to bear the costs of their burial, that's when Ritland chose to honor their memory.

His ride will follow a symbolic route between the graves of two Iowan WASP pilots, Gleanna Roberts, and Beverly Jean Moses, honoring not only these brave women but also all WASP members who served during World War II.

Ritland's journey is a powerful reminder of the pioneering spirit of these women, who flew military aircraft to free up male pilots for overseas combat missions. As Ritland pedals nationwide, he hopes to motivate others to learn more about the WASP legacy and the incredible women who helped shape history.
