It's vacation time, everyone is at the pool, lake, at picnics or just outside in general during the summer.  Being outside usually leads to at least one sunburn during the summer.  I'm very fair "Irish" skinned, so I burn easily and often.  I've used a few of these home remedies myself, some are new to me but I will definitely try them the next time I get a sunburn.

I saw this piece while watching the news the other day and because I just got back from the beach, where I did in fact get sunburned, it caught my attention.  I thought you too might benefit from this information from Dr. Audrey Kunin, a dermatologist who appeared on Fox News' Health Talk with Dr. Manny.

Most of these products will be in your home, actually your kitchen, already but if not they are inexpensive and easily accessible.

The first is vinegar.  This one was one my grandmothers both swore by.  Vinegar is an acidic acid and contains NSAIDS or the pain reliever you find in medicines like Tylenol or Aleve.

Next is baking soda.  This is also one I've tried.  You can use it as a compress or in your bath water to calm and restore balance to the skin.

Tea is not one I am familiar with but it contains EGCG which is an anti-inflammatory.

Mayonnaise and mustard are next on the list.  The mayo can be used as a moisturizer and the mustard contains selenium and magnesium which sooth and calm the skin.  Not sure I  would want to slap these on my skin but I guess in a pinch I might try them.

Yogurt (live culture) is and antibacterial, which will help fight infection if you develop blisters from your sunburn.

Last is olive oil and ginger.  The olive oil is an emollient and moistens the skin but also helps bind the ginger for application to the skin.  The ginger is also an anti-inflammatory that helps to bring down any swelling.

Check out the following video for the full details on these products and how they may help you find sunburn relief this summer.
