Have you ever thought about starting your own business, but didn’t know where to begin? You’re not alone. Thousands of future business owners get stuck trying to figure out what steps to take. That’s why the Texas Tech Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Abilene is hosting a one-hour seminar designed to help anyone ready to take that first step.
Free Business Startup Seminar Coming to Abilene
On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the SBDC will host How to Start a Small Business at 749 Gateway St., Suite 301, in Abilene. The seminar will walk participants through key topics such as how to get started, potential risks, available resources, and how to navigate business ownership in Texas.

Expert Help from People Who Care
David Smith, a long-time advisor at the Texas Tech SBDC, says their mission is simple.
“We help people turn ideas into action,” Smith explains. “Starting a business doesn’t have to be overwhelming. We’re here to guide you through the process, step by step.”
As someone currently working to start multiple businesses, I’ve been meeting with David and the team at the SBDC myself. From launching a printing company to pursuing my lifelong dream of owning my own group of radio stations, I’ve seen how helpful this team can be.
