Texas Cities That Had Mega Millions or Powerball Winners

The Mega Millions lottery jackpot is up to $1.02 billion dollars (the 3rd largest jackpot in the history of the lottery), and the Powerball lottery is up to $130 million dollars this week. While I'm just like everyone else wanting to win half a billion dollars. I got to wondering how many people in Texas have ever won any of these enormous jackpots?

The answer did not surprise me, however, what cities the winners were from and what cities sold the tickets left me somewhat curious. Since the beginning of the Texas Lottery back in May of 1992, only two cities have had multiple winners or repeat sales of winning tickets in the Mega Millions air Powerball lottery jackpots.

What does seems to me to be rather peculiar is that since its inception, a different city has had a winner. The fact that Houston and Dallas are the only cities to ever have two winners in each city and they were years apart. See what cities had jackpot winners in the chart below.

As a regular player of the Texas Lottery the Mega Millions and the Powerball I find it quite curious that there have only been two Powerball, massive jackpot winners, in Texas since the early 90s. It appears to me that the best chance of winning a huge jackpot may be with the Mega Millions.

The last time we had a huge jackpot winner in Texas was from Leander, winning the Mega Millions impressive $227 million jackpot in 2019. However, in 2015 that winner was in Austin winning a massive $500 million dollar Powerball jackpot.

Interestingly enough, no store has ever sold more than one huge jackpot ticket. Finally, if you intend on playing the Mega Millions $1.02 billion dollar lottery this week, do as the Texas Lotto Board officials always say "play responsibly."
