The historic Paramount Theatre in downtown Abilene is continuing on with it's themed film series. This time of year you'll get to enjoy many holiday classics and classic films that are both new and old.

Don't miss your opportunity to watch all your favorite classics in the historic surroundings of the Paramount Theatre located at 352 Cypress Street in downtown Abilene. The films are shown, typically on Friday, Saturday and some Sunday matinees.

The Steven Spielberg classic "E.T. The Extra Terrestrial" will be shown on Thursday, December 31st at 7:30pm. This is film is truly a "family film" although some curse words are spoken in the film it is still a movie I highly recommend for family viewing. E.T. will teach understanding, trust, loyalty, love and caring to kids as they too start having feelings for the little space traveler.

This classic film is about a very fragile, gentle alien that accidently gets stranded on earth. E.T. gets discovered by an young boy named Elliot, who takes the waddling alien into his home and cares for him all the while searching for a way to get the little alien back home.

Elliott and E.T.'s friendship is a lesson in itself. When E.T. is discovered by his siblings and friends the squabbling begins. While the apparent death of E.T. might affect younger children, that's when most adults start feeling emotions of loyalty and sorrow for the little extra terrestrial. The most iconic scene in the entire film is when Elliot's bicycle with Elliot and E.T. takes off across a moon lit sky. That's when magic happens in all viewers hearts.

Without giving anymore away make this a family night at the historic Paramount Theatre. Tickets are $7, get them in advance online at AbileneThundrTix.com due to limited capacity.

As with most venues in Abilene and around the Big Country CDC guidelines must be followed.

The Paramount Theatre had issued a statement back in August stating: We are following the health and safety guidelines issued from state and local officials, we are putting into place the following safeguards and limits to ensure that both patrons and staff are as protected as possible during this transitional period. The Theatre will reopen with new revised scheduling to ensure staff adequate time to clean and disinfect the building between events. Only the Theatre’s auditorium, lobby, and mezzanine will be open to the public at this time.

Paramount Theatre rentals will resume with limited capacity set by local and state guidelines. All bookings will be carefully reviewed by the Executive Director, Technical Director, Events Manager, and Business Manager. To allow for proper social distancing, we will be operating at 50% capacity or less. Paramount staff will be closely monitoring the number of patrons in and out of the theatre.  Everyone 10 years of age and over will be required to wear a face mask. Everyone under 10 years of age is strongly encouraged to wear a mask.
