These 10 Texas Cities Are The Safest To Live In

When you're looking for a place to live in Texas, one of the things you take into account is that you want yourself and your family to be safe. Some cities have more crime than others, but if you do your homework, you'll find suburbs of cities with less crime than the big city that surrounds them.

Not to mention, these suburban areas tend to be quieter and you can typically get a little more bang for your buck when it comes to housing. All of these things are a huge win in my book and something I look for when I'm moving somewhere.

We recently highlighted the 10 most dangerous cities to live in here, but that doesn't mean there aren't good and safe places to live here.

Texas is full of safer places then the state average when it comes to crime, and these 10 places represent areas you should take into consideration if you're looking to move near these areas.

10: WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE, TX.

Here's a great place to live for both families AND students. West University Place is within minutes of Rice University, and I'm talking about walking distance. Located within Houston, you'll find West University Place to be a great place to live if you're a coffee lover, shopper, or foodie.

Not to mention the crime rate here is only 46% of the Texas average when it comes to crime, so you don't have to constantly be worried about something happening.

9: HUTTO

So I have some personal experience with Hutto. I lived in Austin for nearly eight years, and Hutto was a place where we would play in a baseball tournament from time to time. It's a quiet little city, just close enough but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Austin.

You'll find a very laid-back, almost country sort of lifestyle in Hutto as it isn't overly developed with houses laying on top of each other.

8: KELLER

If you have a young family, then Keller is a place you need to look into. Located just about 15 miles north of Fort Worth, you're still close enough to everything going on in Dallas, but Keller is the polar opposite of the big city.

It's so quiet and calm there that it's landed on numerous "Best Small Cities in America" lists.

7: FLOWER MOUND

Another city located not too far from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, this is a popular spot for those who don't want to live directly in the big city. The local crime rate is a stunning 73% below the Texas average, so you don't need to worry about much of anything living here.

One more perk of Flower Mound is that it's not just overly safe there, but it was full-on listed as the fourth best place to live in America by Money magazine in 2021.

6: FRIENDSWOOD

If it's the Houston area that you're headed to, then you need to stop and look at Friendswood. It's right between Houston and Galveston, so you're getting big-city living AND the beach within shouting distance.

When it comes to safety, there is a little bit of petty theft and some minor property crimes that happen, but violent crime is nearly non-existent in Friendswood.

5: COLLEYVILLE

Small town living at its finest, but just minutes away from the DFW airport, Colleyville is a hidden little gem. The crime rate in the city is 78% below the Texas average, dealing with just a touch of property crime.

One reason the crime rate is so low here is that the local community and the Colleyville police department work TOGETHER to keep crime down. That's a rarity.

4: HORIZON CITY

If it's further southwest where you're headed, say the El Paso area, you need to venture into Horizon City. Popular with families and young professionals, these are residents who have no interest in crime.

The crime rate in Horizon City is 80% lower than the Texas average. Horizon City is super affordable, just a stone's throw away from El Paso.

3: HIGHLAND VILLAGE

Another entry from the Dallas area, Highland Village has been ranked as one of the safest places to live in North Texas. It checks in at 81% lower than the Texas average, so you can sleep well at night.

One drawback to Highland Village though is that property crimes, like burglary and theft, are a bit more common here than most places in Texas, so just be sure to put stuff away and make sure everything is locked up.

2: FULSHEAR

Here's a city that has undergone quite a transformation over the years. Fulshear used to be a farming community in Houston, but it has quickly grown out of that and turned into a great place for families to live in the Houston area.

A laid-back vibe in Fulshear leads to a meager crime rate, which is 86% lower than the Texas average. Violent crime is essentially non-existent in the city, allowing you peace of mind.

1: TROPHY CLUB

It's appropriate that the number one city on the list has the word trophy in its city name. Originally a rural getaway for people in Dallas, Trophy Club has grown into a beautiful, livable city. With over 1,000 acres of parks and golf courses, Trophy Club is a spacious sports haven.

Not to mention the crime in Trophy Club is 89% lower than the Texas average. So when you're talking about essentially zero crime taking place, this is the spot. You could leave your car doors wide open at night here and still come out in the morning to everything in it. That's how safe it is here.
