It's been reported that Loretta Lynn has lied about her age. According to records, Lynn is 80 years old, not 77.

As a result, the integrity of the 1980 Oscar Award winning film "Coal Miner's Daughter" has been compromised. The movie tells the story that Lynn was married at age 12 instead of 15. Instead of having four children by age 18, she was actually 21.

I don't think it's a big deal. Loretta Lynn's music is still legendary, her story is still great, and I have sincere respect for any mother of 4, regardless of her age. And as far as the truth in the movie is concerned, give me a break. I wouldn't be surprised if the filmmakers knew the truth all along and encouraged the lie to make the movie more dramatic. Sissy Spacek was amazing, the story is still wonderful, and that's all that matters.

Remember the Jim Carey film "Liar Liar"? I can't get this scene out of my head:

I'm not proud of it, but I'm no angel. I've lied about my - and my kids' - age for various reasons. And every coworker I've asked admitted to lying about their age as some point in their lives. What about you?
