I've often said that "Galveston is the Lone State States little Hawaii and one of my favorite spots in Texas." As if I ever needed an excuse to go to Galveston for some R&R, this weekend is an awesome weekend to be on the seawall in Galveston, because the new 'Pleasure Pier' theme park opens this weekend. What is a Pleasure Pier you ask?

It's where the Boardwalk, the State Fair and New Orleans restaurant row meet. The Texas-sized Pier is 120 feet-wide and 1,130 feet-long. The Pier extends into the Gulf of Mexico from the famous Galveston Seawall, guests will enjoy dining, rides, games and entertainment throughout the year. Rides range from a thrilling Roller-Coaster suspended above the water to a gentle Merry-Go-Round. The first Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant in Texas is on the 60 million dollar Pleasure Pier too.

Hotel rooms on the island ranged in price last year, from $99 to $149 a night. This year with the addition of the Pleasure Pier on Galveston Island, room rates have skyrocketed, now ranging from $149 to $349 a night. Nonetheless, Galveston is still the place to go on a vacation in my book, and more so now, because the Pleasure Pier has so much to offer everyone.

The cost is for admission only (no rides) $10 for adults $8 for children (12 and under).
The cost for admission and all day rides is $26.99 for adults and $21.99 for children.

Are you taking a vacation? Where do you want to go on vacation this year? Would you drive to Galveston for a weekend getaway?
