Check Out the Top 10 Things Only a Real Texan Will Understand
Homecoming Spirit Across Texas
This past weekend, my wife and I headed to the Feels Like Home Festival in Brownwood, Texas. Along the way, we passed through several small towns, each bustling with activity. It wasn’t long before I realized, homecoming was in full swing! School-colored ribbons and banners decorated the streets, showcasing the local high school spirit. It’s the kind of thing that stirs pride in the heart of every Texan.
A Sign of Texas Pride
Driving through West Texas, I saw sights that only Texans would truly appreciate. One that brought a big smile to my face was a football highway sign that read, “Don’t Mess with Texas.” While outsiders might misinterpret it as a warning, we Texans know it’s a call to keep our state clean, no littering here!
Texas Waffles and Brisket—A Match Made in Heaven
Later, we stopped for fuel at a convenience store and I couldn’t help but notice the Texas-shaped waffles on the menu, along with deep-fried burritos and a bottle of Texas-Habanero hot sauce. When I asked if the waffles were popular, the cashier chuckled and told me some customers even ask for brisket sandwiched between two of them instead of buns. Now, that’s something only a Texan would come up with!
Craving Texas at Home
After the trip, I found myself digging out our Texas-shaped waffle maker at home, craving that same waffle-brisket combo. That and waving at everyone on that two-lane highway with the infamous Texas Two-Finger-Farmer-Wave is what inspired me to share this list of “Things Only a Texan Would Understand.” If I missed something, feel free to add it, because Texas truly is like no other.
