For longtime Abilene residents, the reopening of Adventure Cove feels like more than just another swimming pool opening for the summer. For many West Texas families, it represents memories, traditions, and one of the biggest signs that summer has officially arrived in the Big Country.

I still remember broadcasting live from Rose Park when Adventure Cove first opened years ago. Back then, it honestly felt like Abilene had finally taken a giant leap forward. Sure, Dallas and Houston had giant water parks, but Abilene finally had something families could proudly call their own.

It may not be the biggest water park in Texas, but for West Texas families, Adventure Cove quickly became a place where birthdays were celebrated, summer memories were made, and parents could finally cool off with the kids without driving halfway across the state.

Now, Pirate Pete and his crew are preparing to reopen Adventure Cove once again on May 23, just in time for another scorching Texas summer.

Adventure Cove Has Become Part Of Abilene Family Life

Over the years, Adventure Cove has turned into much more than a pool. It has become one of those places where Abilene families gather to laugh, relax, and spend time together.

One of my favorite summer traditions involves the Real Estate Minute I host with Tonya Harbin. Every year, Tonya and her team host one of Adventure Cove’s popular private after-hours evenings where families float the lazy river, race down the slides, enjoy food trucks, and spend time together away from work and stress. Nights like that are exactly why Adventure Cove means so much to so many people across Abilene and the Big Country.

And now, with the city’s splash pads reopening too, families with younger children will once again have another fun way to beat the Texas heat.

A Sure Sign Summer Has Arrived In Texas

When the temperatures start pushing into triple digits across West Texas, places like Adventure Cove become more important than ever. It gives families a place to cool off, unwind, and create memories together right here at home in Abilene.

And honestly, for a lot of us who remember when Adventure Cove first opened, it still feels pretty special seeing kids line up for those slides every summer.

Every year, Tonya and her team host one of Adventure Cove’s popular private after-hours evenings where families float the lazy river, race down the slides, enjoy food trucks, and spend time together.
