Singing superstar Whitney Houston has passed away. The diva with a huge voice was 48 years old. The cause of death was not immediately known.

Kristen Foster, Houston’s publicist, said Saturday that the singer had died, but that the cause and location of her death were unknown, according to PopCrush. The singer, who struggled for years with drug problems and had a public tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, was one of the best-selling artists of the late 1980s and early ’90s. She also starred in ‘The Bodyguard’ and ‘Waiting to Exhale.’

Houston’s career included seven albums and three movie soundtracks. She sold more than 200 million albums and singles worldwide, earned 30 Billboard Awards, 22 American Music Awards and two Emmys.

Her death comes on the eve of the Grammys, of which Houston won six.
