Having experienced a Tartan Day celebration first hand, I am very familiar with the rich and proud heritage the Scottish and Irish have. My wife's side of the family celebrate it in a grand traditional fashion with the clothes, food and drink. National Tartan Day will be celebrated at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Departments, Abilene state park on April 14th 2012, and the event is open to the public. Here is what will transpire during the days events.

There will be entertainment through out the day that includes bag pipers , Celtic musicians, dancers and stories of the Scottish and Irish Texans influence on the Lone Star State. Organizers encourage everyone to arrive early as the scheduled events will begin promptly at 2:00pm. While the event and all it's festivities are free there is a cost to gain entrance into the Abilene State Park. $5.00 per person 13 years old and up is customary, 12 and under get in free. Anyone in the traditional kilt or plaid outer garments will get half off of the parks admission.
