Texas Winter 2025-26 Forecast: Warm, Dry, and Almanac Approved
If you’ve stepped outside lately, you can feel the breeze has changed, the nights are cooler, and folks across Abilene are already asking the same question: “What’s winter going to look like this year?” Around here, the curiosity starts long before the first frost. West Texans love checking the Old Farmer’s Almanac, watching local meteorologists, and swapping weather predictions like old-timers used to trade fish stories.

How the Almanac Sees It
The 2025-2026 Old Farmer’s Almanac calls for a warmer-than-normal winter across Texas, including the Big Country. The coldest periods should arrive in mid-December, early and late January, and early February. Overall precipitation and snowfall are expected to be below normal, with only a slim chance of a mid-November dusting. In other words, fewer snow shovels, more jackets.
The National Weather Service Agrees
NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center backs up that idea with its latest seasonal outlook, showing above-average temperatures and below-average precipitation for the southern tier of the U.S., including Abilene and the Concho Valley. The La Niña pattern steering the jet stream north means fewer cold, wet systems for Texas this go-round.
The Forecast According To Listeners
During my radio show, I asked listeners what they thought the weather was going to do this winter. What follows are the responses I received on the stations Facebook page. The question and the answers:

A Fearless Forecast for Winter
Last winter, my personal prediction of no major snow and the final cold snap hitting in late March and early April turned out almost 100 percent accurate, and I’m standing by a similar call this season. Expect a few quick cold snaps to keep us honest, but mostly a mild, pleasant West Texas winter.
Nonetheless, keep the pipes wrapped, keep the chili simmering, and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts, because this year, the warm wins.
