The Fearless Forecast Texas Heat Is On Its Way, Are You Prepared?
What exactly is a Fearless Forecast? It's when I get this very strong gut feeling that severe weather is about to happen. For the last 14 years I've only missed the weather once, but In my defense I was only off by several months.
A Winter Prediction That Was Right, February Brought the Freeze
Back in December 2024, the Old Farmer’s Almanac predicted the coldest day of winter would hit Texas right before Christmas. That didn’t happen. But I had a gut feeling and told my listeners: “Hold off, February’s going to be the cold one.”
Sure enough, West Texas got walloped with one of the coldest days in February. That’s when a few loyal listeners gave me a new nickname: Forecaster Fearless. I may not be a certified National Weather Service weatherman, but I do play one on the radio lol.
Spring Was Sweet, But Summer’s Cranking Up
Spring gave us a beautiful break, with rainfall that we haven’t seen in several years, and cooler-than-usual days. But we knew it wouldn’t last. Now, as we roll past Mother’s Day, we’re already seeing temperatures soar to 102 or 103 degrees across West Texas and the Concho Valley.
As I always say: “If you don’t like the weather in Texas, just wait 10 minutes, it will change.” And now it’s waiting for no one, the heat is here.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac: Texas Is the Hottest Spot in the U.S.
The 2025 Summer Forecast from the Old Farmer’s Almanac is calling it like it is, Texas and Oklahoma are expected to be the hottest regions in the nation.
We’re talking triple-digit heat, barely any rain, and possible hurricane activity by early August. While most of the country faces a hot and dry summer, Texas is expected to lead the pack in record-breaking heat.

Other Forecasts Back It Up
NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration)
- NOAA is predicting hotter-than-normal temps and drier-than-normal conditions for Texas through July. A lingering La Niña is expected to reduce rainfall and amplify the heat.
AccuWeather
- AccuWeather’s team is also warning of an extremely hot summer, increased drought potential, and an above-average hurricane season. They expect 13-18 named storms this year, some could make U.S. landfall in August.
The Weather Channel
- The Weather Channel is calling June a hot one for Texas and the Southwest. They’re also warning that dry conditions will increase fire risk across the Plains, especially as droughts deepen.
The Fearless Forecast: Texas Get Ready
When the Farmer’s Almanac, NOAA, AccuWeather, and The Weather Channel all agree you pay attention. Summer 2025 is shaping up to be intense. So here’s my Fearless Forecast advice:
- Hydrate often and early.
- Keep an eye on the elderly, young kids, and pets.
- Don’t leave anything breathing inside a car, not even for a minute.
I was taught as a young Cub Scout and Boy Scout, you’ve always got to have a backup plan, whether it’s for power outages, emergency cooling, food shortage, or whatever else Mother Nature throws your way.
Like a good scout, always be prepared.
