Texas Bass Fishing Is Bigger Than Ever, See Them For Yourself
Back in the day, I had the honor of working for the radio station that hosted one of the most legendary fishing tournaments ever, The Big Bass Bonanza. It was known far and wide as the largest bass tournament in the world. And let me tell you, those were the glory days. Boats lined up, crowds cheered, and bass weighing between 8 to 12 pounds were the pride of every angler.

Now, I won’t claim to be a professional bass fisherman. But I’ve got my fair share of tackle, tales, and time on the water. And nothing gets my heart racing like the stories coming out of our West Texas lakes these days.
West Texas and the Big Country Are Hooking Giants
Here’s what’s wild: the biggest bass in Texas this year aren’t just coming from far-off lakes, they’re being pulled out of the waters right here in the Big Country and the Concho Valley. We’re talking big fish, record-breakers, and ShareLunker legends being caught in our backyard.

That’s right. Thanks to the Toyota ShareLunker Program through Texas Parks and Wildlife, anglers from all over are turning in photos of some of the most jaw-dropping bass I’ve ever seen. Lucky for you, we’ve got the top 15 featured in a photo gallery with this article.

What Makes a Lunker a Lunker?
To qualify as an official ShareLunker, your largemouth bass needs to tip the scales at a minimum of 8 pounds or stretch out to at least 24 inches. These aren’t your everyday weekend catches. These are the kinds of fish you hang on your wall, or better yet, donate to science for spawning and future monster bass.
And speaking of spawning, if you catch a 13-pounder or bigger and donate it, you’ll be entered to win a $5,000 shopping spree and get VIP treatment at the ShareLunker Awards. Even catches under 13 pounds get you gear, decals, and a shot at more prizes. All you’ve got to do is enter your catch online or through the app.
It’s More Than a Fish, It’s a Texas-Sized Experience
There’s something magical about bass fishing in Texas. Maybe it’s the sun rising over the water, the tug on the line, or the feeling that today could be the day you land the big one. But for me, it’s always been about the connection to this great state and the memories made on our lakes.
Take a look through the gallery, you’ll see some of the biggest bass caught this year across Texas. And who knows? The next one could have your name on it.
