Lindsay Ell doesn't just "go there" on her next album, she lives there. A high-profile relationship with — and breakup from — radio deejay Bobby Bones fueled many of the songs on the new record the "Criminal" singer is working on, and she says there's one song in particular she fears could go too far.

Talking to Taste of Country, Ell didn't share the title of the song or recite any lyrics, but she did reveal it has a "hardcore Sheryl Crow vibe."

"Don't worry — if it ends up on the album, you'll know what song it is," she insists. On Wednesday morning (Oct. 16) Ell told Bones the song is called "Get Over You."

Ell laughs at this, but it's clear she's concerned about how the song will be received by fans and her ex-boyfriend. Ell and Bones broke up in the fall of 2017 after a year of dating, and publicly they've remained cordial.

“I just hope that especially he knows that sometimes we just have days where we wake up and it’s like you’re angry at something," the 2018 Taste of Country RISERS star said prior to her set at Hometown Rising in Louisville, Ky., last month. "In that moment I wrote this song, and it’s not even that bad. I’m just super sensitive to stuff like that. But in this moment I wrote this song and it just depicts the feeling of like a day. It’s not necessarily how I feel the other 670-whatever days (since the breakup). That’s like one day in like the course of the journey."

Dan Huff is producing Ell's new album, the follow-up to her critically acclaimed The Project record from 2017. While her Stoney Creek Records debut was filled with love songs, this album is filled with what it feels like to pick yourself up from a broken heart. Believe it or not, she is having fun making these songs.

"The process hasn’t been fun, like, being heartbroken and writing about it," Ell shares. "That part sucks. But yeah, I’ve had so much fun creating it."

Ell also talked about her touring partner and "What Happens in a Small Town" collaborator Brantley Gilbert during this interview, admitting that at first she was a little afraid of his fans. "What Happens in a Small Town" is a Top 10 hit on Gilbert's new Fire & Brimstone album.
