KEAN is Voted Best Radio Station by the Readers of the Abilene Reporter News

The Readers Choice Awards were revealed to the winners and runners-up on Thursday June 21st. Although I knew then, that KEAN 105 was voted best radio station in West Texas, I had to keep it a secret until Sunday June 24th. That is when a special edition of the news paper is printed and all the results are released to the public.

This years ceremony was held at the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature (the N.C.C.I.L.). The NCCIL was wall to wall with anticipation of this years winners. Everyone in attendance was told that they were finalists, one never knows if you've won or were the 'runner-up' and nobody likes to be second best, that's why the anticipation was running high.

The winners and runners-up were chosen in 90 different categories, the biggest surprise in my opinion, was the winner of the "Best Happy Hour" award. One would think that it would be a night club, right? Wrong! Nothing could be further from the truth. The winner brought applause and laughter to the crowd when the announcer said "and this years best happy hour goes to, Sonic Drive-Inns".  If that isn't indicative of what kind of community Abilene is, I don't know what is.
