Here’s a surprising fact: there are quite a few foods that are actually banned in the state of Texas. This means you’re unlikely to find these items on the menu at restaurants in Tyler, Longview, or anywhere else in the Lone Star State. While some of these banned foods might not sound appealing to begin with, others could catch you off guard.

Many of these restrictions are rooted in safety concerns, with the FDA outlawing foods deemed potentially harmful—and for good reason. Any food that poses a risk to Texans doesn’t belong on the dinner table. But this raises an interesting question: where do we draw the line? After all, many of us consume foods every day that, without moderation, could also pose health risks.

Still, the idea of certain foods being outright banned in the U.S.—especially in a state as freedom-loving as Texas—can spark strong opinions. For some, the thought of government restrictions on what we eat doesn’t sit well. What do you think?

But WHY are these 15 'foods' banned in Texas?

As for me, I appreciate the fact that some of these 'foods' aren't available or are out-and-out banned. In my opinion, some foods are potentially too dangerous and not worth the risk. Others are created or harvested in ways that seem so unethical, that consuming them seems beneath the dignity of otherwise caring, good-hearted people. Again, that's just my opinion.

There are technically more than 15 foods banned nationally--and even in Texas. But some of them are so uncommon and downright bizarre in some cases, we decided to leave a few out. Others are partially banned, but there are some complicated loopholes, so we left those out as well. I'll share a link below if you'd like to delve more deeply.
