When you think of the longest-running, hardest-working brands in Texas, you probably jump to boots, BBQ pits, or the Cowboys giving us heartburn every season. But one name has been quietly holding it down for 119 years: Ben E. Keith.

Yep, more than a century of food, beverages, and Texas grit, long before delivery trucks had AC or anyone knew what a “seltzer” was. Their history runs deep, their roots run Texan, and their evolution is honestly just cool to look back on.

From Produce To Texas Powerhouse

Ben E. Keith didn’t start as the beverage giant we know today. Back in 1906, they opened shop as Harkrider-Morrison & Keith, moving produce around Fort Worth with little more than notepads, sweat, and a horse-and-buggy. Ben E. Keith himself, who was born in 1882, was the junior partner, writing orders by hand and making deals the old-school way.

Fast-forward 119 years, and things look a little different. Today, the company’s beverage division covers more than 62 counties across Texas, distributing beer, craft brews, imports, spirits, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks. Their food division stretches even further, serving customers across 20 states.

What hasn’t changed? Their promise of quality, service, and taking care of people the right way. That’s been part of their DNA since day one.

Why This Matters (and Why I’m Talking About It)

Full disclosure: Yes, Ben E. Keith is a radio partner of mine. But that’s not why I’m writing this. I’m writing it because 119 years of staying relevant, growing, adapting, and still going strong is something worth celebrating, no matter who you are, especially in this day and age.

It’s a story of Texas resilience, hard work, and showing up every day ready to load the next truck. That’s the kind of energy we try to match here in Abilene.

So here’s to Ben E. Keith with 119 years down, a whole lot more to go, and one heck of a legacy to toast to. Cheers.
