Happy Birthday Texas
March 2nd, this is Texas Independence Day! Texas is 175 years old.One hundred seventy five years ago Texas signed papers declaring our independence from Mexico making us the Republic of Texas. Texas was a Republic until 1845 and then formally became a state.
The members of the convention signed a hand-written document declaring the creation of the short-lived Republic of Texas. The original document still survives and is currently on display in Austin, the state capitol.
