Robb Elementary was the site of one of the worst tragedies in Texas history as a gunman, later identified as Salvador Ramos, shot and killed 19 students and 2 teachers. The senseless act became the worst school shooting in Texas history and the third-worst in United States history.

At a recent council meeting, Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin said that he did not believe any child or teacher should be asked to return to Robb Elementary. According to NBC News, he went on to say that his understanding is that the school would be demolished.

But, what about a new school?

Enter Texas-based grocery chain H-E-B, which has donated $10 million dollars to build a new campus in Uvalde. This is after the company already donated $500,000 to help the victims of this tragedy.

H-E-B chairman, Charles Butt, whose family founded the company, issued a statement talking about the donation.

Our first store in Uvalde opened in 1959, and Uvalde people are our people,” said Charles Butt, H-E-B’s Chairman. “As we continue to mourn tremendous loss, I join with my family and H-E-B in working to ensure the Uvalde community can move forward from this tragic event. Our children are this country’s future, and our schools should be a safe place where children can thrive and envision new possibilities. (H-E-B Newsroom)

According to Texas Tribune, the district will work with a company out of Forth Worth called Huckabee, which specializes in designing public schools. The new campus will have state-of-the-art security and infrastructure for new technology.

No timeline has been set yet for the demolishing of Robb elementary or when they will break ground for the new school.

In addition to that donation, H-E-B has also set up a donation campaign. If you would like to help, you can donate at Uvalde CISD Moving Foward.

What an awesome thing that H-E-B is doing. It just goes to show you that people in Texas always have each other's backs.
