Greenlight a Vet — Change One Light on Your House to Green to Honor Veterans
This Veterans Day, in honor of our nation's veterans and their service, one thing you can do to show your support is to turn one of your house lights green. It's really that simple. Make sure it's a clearly visible light, too.
From the Greenlight a Vet website:
America’s veterans are some of our nation’s bravest, hardest-working men and women. However, it’s hard to show them the appreciation they deserve when, back home and out of uniform, they’re more camouflaged than ever. Greenlight A Vet is a campaign to establish visible national support for our veterans by changing one light to green.
The organization also offers several other ways to show your support, along with an easy link to getting yourself a green lightbulb (which many of don't already have). You can order one from Walmart, which made a $5 million donation to the Institute for Veterans and Military Families.
Greenlight a Vet encourages you to take a picture of your green light and share it on social media, using the hashtag #greenlightavet. You can also change your Facebook profile photo to a shade of green using the filter they provide here.
If you would like to make a direct charitable donation, Charity Navigator has provided this list of highly-rated organizations. You can choose from wounded troops services, military social services or military family support.
