5-Year-Old Girl Gets Visit From Cops Over Overdue Library Books
A 5-year-old girl in Massachusetts got a visit from the local police over two overdue library books.
Police went to the home of Hailey Benoit, 5, as part of a “blitz” to clear up thousands of dollars in overdue fines. The two books had been overdue for several months from the Charlton Public Library. The books had since been found and returned but the fines were never paid.
The library called the police to pay the delinquent book borrower a visit. The girl’s mother called it “pounding a ten penny nail with a sledge hammer”.
The state of Massachusetts still considers overdue library books as a “crime,” even though they were at the tiny hands of a little girl. Does this mean the police have a pair of handcuffs small enough to haul her away?
