The Texas State Parks Go Free Nov. 2nd: It’s Your Perfect Fall Escape
If you’ve ever said, “One day I’m going to get out and see a Texas state park,” your chance has arrived. On Sunday, November 2, all 89 Texas State Parks will waive day-use fees for Texas State Parks Day, an annual tradition that began during the 2023 Centennial Celebration. From the lush piney woods of East Texas to the rugged canyons out West, this is the perfect excuse to breathe some fresh air and make new memories before winter sends us all back indoors.

Abilene State Park Is Calling Your Name
Here in the Big Country, Abilene State Park is a favorite spot for families who want to slow down and soak up the peace of West Texas. Bring a picnic and relax under the shade of towering oaks, take a leisurely bike ride around Buffalo Wallow Pond, or stroll the Elm Creek Trail to spot wildlife before sunset. For those who want to cool off (or just let the kids burn energy), the historic swimming pool built by the CCC remains one of the park’s most beloved landmarks.
A Fearless Call to Protect What We Love
I’ll be honest, I love Texas State Parks deeply. They’ve given me peace when life felt overwhelming and joy when I needed a reminder of how beautiful our state really is. We, as Texans, need to work feverishly to support and preserve these treasures for the next generation. Every trail we hike, every tree we admire, and every quiet moment by the water is a gift that deserves our care.

So if it’s been a while since your last visit, Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, is your perfect day to reconnect with nature. You don’t need fancy gear or big plans, just the willingness to unplug, breathe, and remember what makes Texas so special.
Veterans Get Free Access Year-Round
Texas Parks and Wildlife also reminds all veterans, active-duty military, and Gold Star families that Parkland Passports are available for free year-round admission. It’s one small way to thank those who’ve served and sacrificed, protecting the very freedom that lets us enjoy these open skies.
Pack Up and Go, Texas Is Waiting
Admission is free on November 2, but parks can fill up fast. Make your reservation online, grab the family, and get ready to unplug for a day that’s 100 percent Texas. Whether you’re exploring Abilene State Park or one of the 88 others across our state, remember what I like to say: "Life’s better outside when you’re in a Texas state park."
