The Abilene Animal Shelter is participating in a nationwide campaign through this Saturday, December 12th, called "Empty The Shelter Holiday Hope Event" in conjunction with the Bissell Pet Foundation. The goal is to reduce the numbers of animals that are in shelters across the United States, especially throughout the holidays.

The Abilene Animal Shelter is participating in this 'Holiday Hope Event,' by offering EVERY cat, dog, kitten or puppy at no cost to you. That's right, FREE! "Every animal that is currently in the Abilene animal shelter and that is cleared for adoption can be adopted for free" says Mike Bricker, Director of Abilene Animal Services Shelter.

If you can provide a loving home for any of these adorable fur babies, then all that is needed to adopt is to be 18 years of age or older and provide a valid form of identification. Each of these adoptions come with updated vaccinations, de-worming, a microchip and spay or neuter.

The 'Empty the Shelter Holiday Hope Event' gives everyone the opportunity to adopt a pet and hopefully insure that all the cats, dogs, kittens and puppies will be "home for the holidays" according to Director Bricker that went on to say "because of the pandemic there has been an abnormal amount of animals picked up and/or turned in, to Abilene's animal shelter."

The shelter at 925 South 25th Street in Abilene is overcrowded with the most lovable dogs and puppies at this time. As for cats and kittens they are in short supply. The Shelter's hours for "Empty the Shelter Holiday Hope Event" are Monday through Saturday from 11 am - 2 pm and 3 pm - 6 pm. The shelter closes between 2 to 3 pm daily to clean and feed. The shelter is not open on Sunday.
