Does the Drinking Water in Abilene Really Taste That Good?
Is the drinking water in Abilene really that good? Yes, it's true, Abilene water is top-notch in the state of Texas, beating a lot of bigger cities for the quality of drinking water that we have here in the Key City. I've recently learned that the City of Abilene's environmental laboratory works diligently at testing and improving our water quality to ensure the best and safest drinking water.
During the 2021 Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) "Public Drinking Water Recognition Program," municipalities from all across Texas were judged for their Tap Water Quality, cleanest water, Best Tasting Water, and a host of others. Abilene walked away with a couple of awards for cleanest, and the Best Tasting Water Contest.
Abilene's water district is the supplier of the water and is responsible for providing high-quality drinking water, which they do. Unfortunately, the city cannot control the variety of materials in plumbing components used in our homes and or businesses.
Just think about it, water is sitting for several hours in the plumbing lines in your home and or business, exposed to whatever your pipes may be made of. Nonetheless, you can help minimize the possibility of being exposed to lead or other contaminants by simply letting the tap run for 30 seconds to two minutes before using that water for drinking or cooking.
If you have new and or better piping you may not have to do any running water. However, if you are still concerned about your pipes, have your water tested to see if there are steps you can take to improve the water coming through your faucets.
