Road Trips and Beaver Nuggets: Why Texans Can’t Get Enough of Buc-ee’s

If you are anything like me you know that a road trip across the Lone Star State is not a successful road trip without a couple (if not more) of stops along the way at my favorite roadside gas station and Superstore known as Buc-ee’s. This legendary travel center is well known for its clean bathrooms, wide array of snacks like beaver nuggets (yum yum), and the iconic smiling beaver welcoming travelers from all around the world. For a lot of us , Buc-ee’s isn’t just a pit stop it is the highlight of the journey or a one day get-away.

A Historic Beaver Tale

The History of Buc-ee’s started in 1982 by Archie “Beaver” Aplin and Don Wasek, Buc-ee’s started as a modest convenience store in Lake Jackson, Texas. The duo named their establishment by combining Aplin’s nickname with the appeal of Ipana’s mascot, Bucky the Beaver. From the very beginning, Buc-ee’s started growing into a must-visit destination with locations spreading out throughout Texas and beyond. What I believe is the reason for their Fame and popularity is the owners honest commitment to high quality merchandise AND the reason I LOVE Buc-ee's an almost fanatical attention to the cleanliness of their bathrooms.

What Texans Love About Buc-ee’s

It’s not hard to figure out why we Texans flock to Buc-ee’s like it's a 90% off sale on Black Friday. So I asked on the radio and the station's social media Facebook page, "What is your favorite thing from Buc-ee's?"I should have known if you ask 100 people the same question you'll get 100 different answers and that's what happened. From the highly addictive Beaver Nuggets to the insulated drink tumblers, t-shirts, to their treasure trove of treats and Buc-ee embossed clothing of all kinds. Here’s what some station listeners, aka Buc-ee's fans had to say:

Planning the Journey

If you're like me, planning a trip to anywhere in the Lone star State or the U.S. will include the road map to where you are going and that means taking the roads where Buc-ee's lives. Yep, that's the Interstates and State Highways where you will stop and refuel, stretch, grab a bight and use their super clean facilities. Let's not forget the memories like souvenirs, with Buc-ee's smiling face on it.
