Unspecified health issues will keep Bonnie Raitt off the road for some of her scheduled tour dates with James Taylor. The pair's 2018 trek was scheduled to begin on May 8 in Jacksonville, Fla.

According to Raitt's official website, she will need to miss the first leg of her and Taylor's tour due to a health issue that was discovered during her annual physical and will require a surgery that cannot be put off. Although Raitt's statement does not explain the health issue she is facing, it does note that "the prognosis is good and a full recovery is expected."

“I’m deeply sorry to have to disappoint my fans, James and colleagues with these cancellations," Raitt writes. "I was so looking forward to our tour, but I’m very grateful that the doctors feel this can be taken care of with surgery. I’m feeling strong and am in great hands with my wonderful team."

Raitt says that she plans to join Taylor on the road for the second leg of U.S. dates, beginning on June 22 in Saint Paul, Minn., and some European shows in July. She thanks fans for their concerns and notes that "the best gift you could give me is respecting my wish for privacy and giving me space to heal."

At most of the dates Raitt has dropped out of, fans will see two sets from Taylor and his band; however, Sheryl Crow will join Taylor at a May 29 show in Phoenix, Ariz., and two shows at the Hollywood Bowl on May 31 and June 1.

"We are so looking forward to having her rejoin the tour in mid-June," Taylor writes on his website. "Of course, there is no question as to the priority of your health, Bonnie. You will be constantly in our hearts and minds until we see you in June."
