Guess who finally went home after getting a temporary 'stay of execution'? Hank the Handsome Lab mix may be wagging his tail, but I can't seem to quit smiling as I'm overcome by tears of joy. I had been praying that Hank would be spared. "The bigger dogs are harder to adopt," so I'm told by Mr. Vannoy the Director of the animal shelter, thus the reason why I worried so much about the 85 pound lab named Hank. Thank to the wonderful family that cared enough to give Hank life. Please look at all the other beautiful critters that need homes, follow the link to see their picture and description.

Good news came early this morning, Nipsey the three year old orange tabby was adopted. Abilene Animal Control Shelter officer Frost said "Nipsey went to his new home late Friday just before the shelter closed." Thank you to the anonymous family that adopted him, and thanks to everyone that shared the blog and helped spread the word, about a lovable overweight cat named Nipsey. It is  impossible to help animals without your support. Still, more critters need homes, see more shelter info and animals below.

This one went down to the wire, Cowboy the Golden/Pyrenees mix was adopted Saturday. Aaron Vannoy the Director for Abilene Animal Control Shelter said, "Cowboy was adopted by Danielle Molina on Saturday afternoon just before we closed. She already had a great Pyrenees retriever named Charlie. Now Charlie has a buddy named Cowboy." Thanks to everyone that shared the blog and helped spread the word on Cowboy. A big thank you to Miss Molina for giving Cowboy a place to call home. It is  impossible to help animals without your support. Still, more critters need homes, see more shelter info below.

Miss Maggie the beautiful nine year old chocolate lab has a new home in the country.  As you can read in the comment below, Correne Allen and her husband wrote "my husband and I are bringing Maggie home tomorrow. we think Maggie will really like the country with a lot of room to run & right on the water too." Thank you to the Allen family for saving this sweet little lady.

Who says that good Samaritans don't exist? Today a small red Dachshund was being delivered to the Rescue the Animals shelter, when he escaped and ran away, fast (future wienie dog race champion in the making). The Abilene Animal Shelter and Rescue the Animals (R.T.A.) quickly put out an attempt to locate, the little dog was last seen being picked up near the Winters Freeway and North First street. That's not where the story ends though.

The Abilene city council is considering adding, updating and/or changing some laws concerning your pets. Some of the cities ordinances will include other pets not just precluding to 'dogs', say you live in an apartment and you have four or more animals, depending on the size of your domicile you may have to get rid of some pets. Another ordinance is the 'vicious dog' ordinance, say someone comes onto your property (with or without your knowledge and/or permission) and your dog bites that person, your dog could be considered a 'vicious and/or dangerous dog' and could be taken from you and be put down by the city's dog pound. There's a little known fact that the Abilene Kennel Club started in 1958, and since then the Abilene club has hosted 47 dog shows right here in Abilene. The 47th Annual Dog Show was January 2011, while those who attended last years show are wondering what happened to this years 48th annual show, it has been moved, it is scheduled for May.

Miranda Lambert really can’t seem to catch a break. After losing her father-in-law (Blake Shelton‘s dad) just a few weeks ago, Lambert was then saddened by the loss of a longtime friend, who was killed in a tragic car accident. Today, the ‘Baggage Claim’ songstress shared with her fans that one of her dogs, Dixie, has also died.
